About Us

Ecotourism in Uzi has been developed in cooperation between the Uzi Island Conservation Society, Zenith Tours of Zanzibar and World Unite!

Uzi Island Conservation Society is an NGO, founded in 2012 in Zanzibar. It currently has 9 members, all of which are from Uzi Island. Director – Taha Hussein Abdallah; Executive Secretary – Aliy Abdurahim Aliy; Assistant Executive Secretary – Mohammed Khamis Ali;  Accountant – Rashad Muhammad Khamis; Animal keeping Department – Riziki Silimu; Sustainable Fisheries Department -  Mwanaisha Haji; Ecotourism Department – Hassan Mrisho; Economical Development – Namna Hassan; Conservation - Ishaq Hussein Abdallah.

Zenith Tours of Stone Town Zanzibar is the driving force in the field of ecotourism development in Uzi and is arranging day visits to Uzi Island. Zenith Tours is a locally owned and managed tour operator, dedicated to organising exciting and innovative holiday packages and
providing high quality travel services. Since its inception in 1994, Zenith Tours has earned international reputation for being absolutely reliable and innovative. For that reason, Zenith Tours is handling the clients of many many European, North American and Australian tour companies in Zanzibar. Zenith Tours thanks Chamäleon Reisen of Berlin/Germany for sponsoring the project.

World Unite! is a German organization arranging volunteering, internship and cultural learning options in several countries. World Unite! runs its own development projects in several countries and currently employs 2 project managers in Uzi Island in the subject areas of conservation and tourism development. They are working with and also providing support services to foreign volunteers and interns who wish to participate in the island's development. Volunteering and internships in Uzi are possible in environmental and marine turtle conservation, tourism development and other income-generating activities, education (kindergarten and primary school) and medical (village dispensary).
