SUMMARY:Stone Town Reggae Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Zanzibar Reggae Festival – East Africa’s first environmentally conscious festival on a zero-waste mission! \nTheir objective is to unify people from Zanzibar and from different backgrounds to join hands\, experience the beauty of this tropical island and contribute to overcoming environmental issues while enjoying Reggae music together. \nBeyond the music this festival stands for unity and upholding the deeply rooted Rastafarian cultural heritage in Zanzibar. Therefore each year in the spirit of the festival\, they encourage Zanzibari’s and visitors to unite and make an effort together to improve the Zanzibar environment – therefore preserving the unique beauty of Zanzibar. \nThis year during the festival a major beach clean up in Stone Town in cooperation with Sustainable East Africa as well as tree plantings in cooperation with Fumba Town Service Centre are planned.

SUMMARY:Eid al-Adha (Eid al-Hajj)
DESCRIPTION:Eid al-Adha also called the “Sacrifice Feast”\, is the second of two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide each year\, and considered the holier of the two. It honours the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son\, as an act of obedience to God’s command. Before Abraham sacrificed his son\, God provided a male goat to sacrifice instead. In commemoration of this\, an animal is sacrificed and divided into three parts: one third of the share is given to the poor and needy; another third is given to relatives\, friends and neighbours; and the remaining third is retained by the family. \nCelebrations in Zanzibar are very similar to Eid al-Fitr where many locals dress up and head in to town to meet friends and enjoy good food together.
