Dada – Delicacies

Dada stands for a Zanzibari network of local cooperatives running and managing their own businesses. The women of the Mama Matemwe cooperative created a multitude of delicious delicacies such as tea, snacks, sweets, jams, chutneys, mustards, sauces, muesli, bread and flour. Try one of their exquisite hot mango, guava, tomato, bungo or tamarind jams or surprise your family and friends with sweets and snacks like tasty date balls, all handmade in Zanzibar.

If you want to know the many benefits of the ingredients, do not hesitate to chat with the shopkeepers who have all received training on the scientific facts of the products. The production of the delicacies follows environmentally sustainable principles. Solar dryers, energy-efficient ovens and rainwater are used for the preparation of the products.

The Dada founders are supporting the network and the village through micro-loans, permaculture and beekeeping courses for school children and villagers, the creation of a tree nursery and the education of environmental-friendly agroforestry techniques to overcome unsustainable concepts like slash-and-burn methods. Furthermore, they support the cooperative with training in sales and profits, production planning, sourcing, storekeeping and accounting.

Do you want to know how to make your own products? Dada invites you to join them and learn how to use local ingredients in one of their cooking classes.
