Zanzibari women are known for cultivating a long standing tradition – the pampering of themselves with only the best of local flowers, herbs and spices. Over decades the older women passed on the sacred recipes to the next generation, always making sure they stay pure and a well-kept secret.

Stefanie, the owner and founder of Mrembo Spa, was introduced to the mystery of massages, scrubs, facials, manicures, pedicures and henna adornments over 15 years ago. Together with locals she has created a place full of warmth, scents and local tradition where time stands still and your sole mission is to relax and take it all in.

The traditional treatments are combined with solid professional practice which is regularly refreshed by international therapists. Let your senses guide you to the beauty products you like best – whether composed of cinnamon, clove, lemongrass, ylang ylang, roses, jasmine or sweet basil among others. The highest compliment is that local women also shop at Mrembo Spa to prepare their own ceremonial treatments. This speaks to Mrembo Spa’s acceptance and authenticity among the Zanzibari.

The Mrembo Spa team is composed of Zanzibari who have worked there for many years. They will make you feel at home and part of their family. Learning and sharing knowledge is a philosophy regularly practiced at Mrembo Spa which leads the staff to train interested people in beauty and spice blending treatments for free. The beauty products created and used at Mrembo Spa are all made of natural, fresh and organic ingredients.

You can also purchase their home-made soaps, body butter and scrubs or make your own scrub or coconut oil during one of their fun and educational beauty workshops. You will also find locally produced kikois (scarfs), kikoi dresses, spice tea blends and other handicrafts.
