Eid-al-Fitr

Eid al-Fitr is an important religious holiday. Celebrated by muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the islamic holy month of fasting. The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan. The first day of Eid falls on the first day of the new moon and this varies based on the observation of new moon by local religious authorities, so the exact day of celebration varies by locality.

In Zanzibar Eid al-Fitr is celebrated by the 98% population of Muslims who all get dressed up in traditional clothing and celebrate on the streets for 4 days. There are local fairs/tents set up and many of the locals enjoy the delicious food from the street vendors while they spend time with friends and family celebrating this special occasion.
