Ecological & Social Footprint
All of Ndali lodge’s water is sourced to a 100% from the adjacent crater lake which comes to the lodge via a hydraulic ram pump system relying purely on kinematic energy hence no electric energy is needed. The lodge is run on nearly 100% solar energy making them independent from non-renewable energy.
The staff all comes from the surrounding communities and the majority of supplies and ingredients are sourced from the local markets in the vicinity. Part of the fruits and vegetables used are grown organically on their own grounds which implies that no chemical have been added to the produces.
Ndali lodge has a long-lasting relationship with the surrounding community and supports many initiates through their non-for-profit organization Ndali Ventures. Apart from providing employment they also sponsor over 15 students throughout their entire academic career – from pre-school up to university. They are affiliated with three different schools in the area where they support the construction of multipurpose houses and classrooms. The 1000 acre farm land has been actively reforested and counts now with a vast expanse of indigenous trees, a diverse array of birds, monkeys and other wildlife.
Things To Do
Most of the activities at Ndali are walks. We have great guides called Steven and Sam who can take guests on bird-walks around the estate or to the farm where coffee, vanilla and waragi (!) are produced. There is also a walk of about an hour and a half around the lake above which Ndali is built. This can be done without a guide. We have a swimming pool and a sauna and 2 traditional boats on the lake. Almost all of our guests go to see the chimpanzees in Kibali forest (40 mins drive) and some also do the walk through Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary (just beyond Kibali).
