Living Yoga Zanzibar

Living Yoga is a trio of three well-experienced yoga teachers living on Zanzibar, Christine, Laura and Aida. Each one of the three contributes her own unique teaching and practicing forms. Together they offer a great variety of different yoga styles such as Hatha, Vinyasa, Stand Up Paddle Board Yoga (SUP), Yin, pre/postnatal, women’s yoga and Power Yoga.

For Christine, yoga is a practice of tuning into ourselves, strengthening our intuition, embodying love, learning to be compassionate with ourselves, being present and being able to pause and respond rather than react. She trained for 5 months in Rishikesh, India with the Vinyasa Yoga School and again with the Ashtak Yoga School. She also did a short Iyengar Yoga course in Dharamsala, India, and completed a training with Bliss Baby Yoga in pre/postnatal yoga. Christine offers various retreats throughout the year as well as yoga classes on request.

For Laura, yoga means calming and focusing the mind by connecting movement and breath. For her, it is a lifestyle that goes beyond the mat. She wishes to support her students with being able to balance better (in life and on the mat), learning to quiet down the mind, to have a positive outlook on life, to become one’s own life designer as well as experiencing the physical benefits of stretching and staying fit. She completed her Yoga Teachers Training on Zanzibar with ZanziYoga and trained as a Kemetic Yoga Teacher on Jamaica. She currently offers weekly yoga classes in the beautiful setting of the Mbweni Ruins.

For Aida, with yoga she can connect to her heartbeat and breathing. For her, it is the only place where she can adjust her body with her mind and soul. During yoga, she can be present, and she sees it as the foundation of youth, wisdom and health. Being a Zanzibari, Aida has the great gift to introduce yoga to the island and connect it with the Muslim faith. She offers her expertise to locals during outreach classes in order for them to feel the benefits of yoga. She currently teaches several times a week in the Emerson on Hurumzi hotel and is also part of the teachers duo at Yoga Stone Town.
