Nuya’s Essence

The skin care product series from Nuya’s Essence has been inspired by the need of African women for natural skin care products with an appealing and attractive design. The young Tanzanian founder and owner Hellen Dausen has created an award-winning enterprise which has been recognized by the Tanzanian government and Forbes Africa magazine.

The products are all handmade in the workshop near Stone Town, Zanzibar where mostly women bring out the best of the natural ingredients such as coconuts, baobab seeds or moringa leaves. The skin care products like soaps, body scrub, body butter and lip balm are flavored with natural essential oils from Zanzibar, for example, cloves, cinnamon, sweet basil or lemongrass.

Coconut shells are upcycled and reused as soap dishes. Hellen is also a business mentor to other Zanzibari start-ups and produces a “charity soap” where part of the profits support Zanzibar Health Care Institutions.
